Bovine and Barn Cats

Diesel

Maverick

Maverick

A black and white cow standing in a dry field with trees in the background.

Diesel is a Holstein steer. He is 6 years old and currently living his best life breaking through fences and taking himself on walks to eat ALL the things along the way! He was rescued in 2025 just a few days shy of being “harvested.” He came to us all the way from Florida and he has been a big hit in the neighborhood and with the volunteers. It took him a little while, but now he fits right in with the horses and brings himself to the barn like he has lived there his whole life. He’s like a VERY giant dog. We are estimating that he weighs about 2,000 pounds. One of our volunteers swears he’s going to ride him someday.

Maverick is a black and white cat who is the epitome of the word “chill." He is about 3 years old and has always been very loving and sweet. He loves car rides and if any door or window is left open on a vehicle, you can count on him to be in it. He has loved being in cars/trucks since he was a tiny kitten.  He isn’t quite the mouse hunter he needs to be, and went from “barn cat” to “garage cat,” but we love him anyway.

Binks

Loki and Stella

Loki and Stella

A cat camouflaged behind wooden pallets and beams outdoors.

Binks is a tabby cat and is roughly 3 years old. She was a stray who showed up and made herself at home, although very reluctantly. There are only a few of us she will let pet her, even after all this time, but once you start petting her she purrs and shows tons of affection. She hunts but tends to spend more time in the garage than at the barn.

Loki and Stella

Two cats sitting back-to-back on a hay bale inside a wooden shed.

Loki and Stella are both 1.5 year old and are brother and sister. Teri and others were outside one night when they heard meowing across the road in the woods.  They saw one tiny little kitten and it was meowing up a storm, but wouldn’t come near them. They tried for a long time and ended up leaving food for them.  Eventually, they came to trust us and never left again. Stella is a true hunter who lives a great life at the barn, with a cat door to the feed room for A/C, heat, food, and water. Loki has since decided he would rather hang in the garage with Maverick and Binks.
